Wheel Blocks to Cranes In overhead travelling cranes and other industrial lifting equipment, wheel housings refer to the structural units that accommodate the crane’s travel wheels as the crane moves along its runway rails or other guided track. The term is used particularly in bridge cranes and industrial gantry systems, where the wheel housings ensure correct wheel alignment, load‑bearing capacity, and safe, controlled travel. A wheel housing positions the crane wheel correctly in relation to the rail, distributes the applied loads evenly into the end‑carriage structure, prevents lateral movement that could otherwise lead to rail wear or crane skewing, and often incorporates the wheel bearing arrangement, enabling smooth and consistent rotation. Wheel housings form an integral part of the crane’s end carriage, which typically carries four to eight wheels, depending on the crane’s size and duty class. |
