Maus tank in Africa 1944
The German Maus was an enormous prototype super‑heavy tank weighing about 188 tons, armed with a 128 mm KwK 44 L/55 gun and crewed by six men. It never saw combat. In contrast, the Panzer III, used widely by Rommel’s Afrika Korps, weighed only 23 tons, carried a 50 mm KwK 39 L/60 gun, had a five‑man crew, and reached speeds of around 40 km/h, twice that of the Maus.
