The stone axe used in Finland was most likely to look and feel: it was an elongated, oval, completely sanded stone with a faint grey or greenish surface, often a nicely sparkling structure of the ray stone. The blade of the axe narrowed gently and its cutting edge was carefully sanded thin, but not razor sharp – more like a durable, even bevel that withstood the felling and scooping of the wood.
