In physics a phenomenon may be a feature of matter, energy, or spacetime, such as Isaac Newton's observations of the moon'a orbit and of gravity, or Galileo Galileis's observations of the motion of a pendulum.
Johannes Kepler's observation of the orbits of the planets was in the shape of an ellipse. Looking at the image on the right, it has a quarter roughly elliptical orbit.
